Living willow

Living willow structures are the most wonderful way to bring nature into your playground. Willow is one of our most familiar native trees, and its hardiness and flexibility allow it to be used as a wonderful living building material.

Once planted, your willow will grow into the shape that you have chosen, be it a dome, tunnel or fence, and in the summer months provide shade with it's wonderful green foliage. Living willow is a beautiful way to bring natural play spaces or story telling areas into your playground, and will last for many many years.

Living willow dome sizes

Small dome - 3m diameter

Our smallest dome is a perfect size for the children to feel it is all their own. At 3m in diameter and just tall enough for most adults to stand fully upright inside, it provides a wonderful den for small groups of children to play in.

Storytelling dome - 3.5m diameter

The perfect dome for playtimes, story times and circle activities. These domes really are something special, with an extended archway entrance and a woodchip floor, and space for 15 children to be seated comfortably inside.

Large storytelling dome - 5m diameter

Our largest domes are a whopping 5m across, and can seat 30 children around the edge. They are a great space to entertain a large group of children, and can be filled with our grand handmade storytelling chairs, benches and of course also tree stump seats.

Living willow village

Our ultimate living playspace, a series of domes connected together with tunnels. Any combination can be created, but we find that three domes connected with two 2m tunnels works beautifully, creating an entire village of living willow for the children to explore, a space that they and their imaginations can truly become lost in.

The image here shows 3 of our small domes connected with straight 2m tunnels, but it can also be created with our storytelling dome and curved or wiggly tunnels. The living willow village is also great value for money, as it comes with a 10% discount on the total of the seperate components.

Living willow tunnels

Living willow tunnels are brilliant both by themselves or connected to one of our domes. They can link spaces together, add interest to pathways, or even just lead into nowhere, just for the fun of the journey. They can be made straight, curved or wiggled, just as you like.

Storytelling chairs, tree stumps and benches

Your living willow dome can be built all by itself, or filled with some of our beautiful handmade wooden products, such as our unique storytelling chairs, tree stump seats or lovely hardwood benches. These can turn your dome into a multi-use storytelling circle and teaching space. They are all made to order and can be adapted to any shape or size. Please look on our storytelling page for more details.
